BACL Competitions Suspended in Response to COVID-19

Hi Everyone

The BACL Executive has been discussing various options following the fast recent increase of COVID-19 cases in the UK. We are mindful that our players include a cross-section of society including those either at high risk from the virus themselves or whose families include individuals at high risk. Under these circumstances we have decided it is not appropriate that anyone should feel under pressure to play nor that the captains should be conducting their own risk assessments before each match and have to come to agreement on whether to play or not.

Accordingly, we have decided to suspend all competitions with effect from Monday 16 March 2020. We think it is unlikely that we will be able to resume competitions before the Autumn. Depending on when we are able to resume, the resumption may take different forms (completing the remaining matches or cancelling the rest of the season and going straight into the 2020/21 season are two of the options). We will consult on these options and the effect on promotion and relegation in good time before resumption of the competitions.

Best regards

Alan Richardson

Chairman BACL
